Understanding Connecticut’s Law on Texting and Cellphone Use
Connecticut law prohibits any driver from texting while behind the wheel. Drivers 18 and older may talk on the phone, but they must do so using a hands-free device. No driver under 18 is allowed to talk on the phone, even hands-free.
Beginning Oct. 1, 2013, Connecticut law imposes the following penalties for texting or talking without a hands-free device while driving:
First offense: $150 fine
Second offense: $300 fine
Third offense: $500 fine
Record of the violation will be reported to insurance companies
